Obituary of Joseph Howard Brantley

Funeral service for Joseph Howard “Joe” Brantley, Sr. 86, of Talladega, will be Sunday at 3:00 PM at The First United Methodist Church of Talladega. Rev. Minnie Stovall Bailey will officiate. His family will receive friends Sunday at the church from 2-3 PM. Graveside service will be Monday, April 8, 2013 at 2 PM at Pineville Cemetery in Monroeville, AL. Mr. Brantley passed away at his home April 5, 2013. “Joe” was a native of Monroeville, AL and a resident of Talladega since 1970. He was a member of the Civitan Club, both of Monroeville and Talladega Chapters, Volunteer Fire Department and a member of the Men’s Chorus, both of Monroeville, member of Talladega and Monroeville First United Methodist Churches, actively involved with April in Talladega, U.S. Navy Veteran, and volunteered at the Samaritan House here in Talladega. He is preceded in death by his parents James Howard and Elizabeth Westbrook Brantley, first wife, Helen Hill Brantley, brothers, Henry Gilbert Brantley, Samuel Westbrook Leak, Clifton Reed Leak, step-son, Allan Arnett. He is survived by is wife, Catherine Arnett Brantley, daughters, Alleta B. Westbrook Alverson (Tommy), Lynn B. Elrod (Mark), sons, Willard M. Kennedy (Deedie), Joseph Howard Brantley, Jr. (Michelle), step-daughters, Peggy A. Bussie (Howard), Ann A. Simmons, Carolyn A. Smith (Jack), step-daughter in law, Renita Arnett, sister, Nancie B. Robinson, 19 grandchildren, 27 great-grandchildren and 2 great-great-grandchildren along with several nieces and nephews. Pallbearers will be Joseph and Jonathan Brantley, Howard Bussie, Randy Robert, Dennis Pounders, Marty Wadsworth, Thomas and Steve Lemons. Honorary pallbearers will be Men of First United Methodist Church of Talladega, Ed King and Wayne Miller. In lieu of flowers, memorials can be made to First United Methodist Church, 400 East Street South, Talladega, AL or The Samaritan House, 1301 Allison Mill Rd. Talladega, AL 36160
