Obituary of Peggy Colleen Riggins Daniel

Daniel, Peggy Colleen Riggins Cannon , 77 of Ashville, Alabama died March 5, 2013. Peggy Riggins Daniel, of Ashville, AL was born on January 26, 1936 in Birmingham and passed away on Tuesday, March 5, 2013. She was a graduate of Woodlawn High School class of 1954, and a 1958 graduate of Carraway School of Nursing. Peggy began her nursing career at East End Memorial Hospital in East Lake, AL, where she was Head Nurse of Orthopedics and later as the OR Holding Room Supervisor, and retired in 2000 from Medical Center East in Roebuck, AL, after 37 years. Peggy had a passion for helping others and cherished her career as a nurse. Peggy and her husband, Sonny, moved to Ashville, AL in 1996 into the home she designed where she continued her pursuit of her passion for art, gardening, bird watching, fishing, and serving in the Church she loved. She was an active member of Greensport Baptist Church where she served faithfully as a Sunday School Teacher, Choir Member, occasional pianist, as well as performing with a trio they lovingly referred to as the “Southern Hens.” Peggy always loved her art and painting, leaving her family with beautiful examples of her work to cherish. Peggy is preceded in death by her parents, Hubert & Laura Pasco Riggins. She leaves to cherish her memory her loving Husband of 35 years, Robert “Sonny” Daniel, her Brother, Hugh Riggins of Greensboro, NC, her five children: Debra Cannon Guy (Lin) of Ft. Payne, AL, Ed LaNeave Cannon (Kristi) of Chicago, IL, Glenn Lacy Cannon of Ashville, AL, Joseph Andrew Daniel (Teresa) of Jacksonville, FL, and Deborah Jean Daniel Coniglione (Michael) of Jacksonville, FL, her 12 grandchildren: Angela Ellis Arrington (Wade) of Fultondale, AL, April Ellis Wisham (Kyle) of Springville, AL, Beau Alexander-Ryan Cannon of Valdosta, GA, Sarah Colleen Stutsman (Kevin) of Margaret, AL, David Edward Cannon of St. Cloud, MN, Katie Marie Cannon of St. Cloud, MN, Brandon Daniel of Jacksonville, FL, Brandianna O'Donnell of Jacksonville, FL, Gabriella Grove of Jacksonville, FL, Abigail Katherine Wentworth of Lennon, MI, Andrea Louise Merrill of Lennon, MI, and Katheryn Joyce Guy of North Carolina, her 11 great-grandchildren: Laura Lacy Arrington, Daniel Wade Arrington, Alexander Riley Oden, Conner James Wisham, Emma Grace Wisham, Scott Michael Oden, Trystan Grace Tyler, Brooklynn Riley Stutsman, Faith Elizabeth Cannon, Anthony “Tony” Grove, Caleb James O'Donnell, her nephew Christopher Riggins (Paula) of Atlanta, GA and niece Christen Joy “CJ” Mickelberry (Dan) of Lafayette, CO, her Aunt Henrietta Pasco Boris of Ft Worth, TX, her numerous Pasco and Riggins Cousins, and her extended Cannon family, whom she always loved. Visitation will be held at Usrey Funeral Home in Pell City, Alabama on Thursday, March 7, 2013 for friends beginning at 5:00 PM until 8:00PM. Funeral and internment will be held at Greensport Baptist Church in Ashville, AL on Friday, March 8, 2013 at 2:00 PM with Rev. Marlin Cox officiating. Visitation at the Church will be held an hour prior to service. In lieu of flowers, memorial donations may be made to the Church she loved, Greensport Baptist Church, 9260 Shoal Creek Road, Ashville, AL 35953.
