Obituary of Oris LaVerne Hare
Please share a memory of Oris to include in a keepsake book for family and friends.
Oris Laverne Rabbit Hare passed away peacefully at home surrounded by his loved ones on January 11, 2014. He was born on November 20, 1929 in Birmingham, Alabama and was a lifelong resident of Ragland, Alabama. God answered our prayers by taking him home and not allowing him to suffer any longer. He made the decision a few months ago, at the age of 83, to obey the Gospel and become a child of God. Therefore, we rest in the assurance that he was carried away by a host of angels to be with Jesus. He was a devoted husband to his wife (Ruth) of 64 years. He was beloved by his children, grandchildren, and great-grandchildren. The love he had for his family was matchless.
He worked at National Cement Plant of Ragland for 44 years and was a leader of Local 44 union. He stood for what the union was all about: 8 hours work for 8 hours pay. He was a full-blooded Democrat, a man of honesty and integrity, and was respected by all. He was an avid fisherman and loved the river. He was a walking history book. One of his lifetime and dearest friends was Travis St. John; they physically became blood brothers. His final adventure on his ATV was the thing he loved to do. He was a mans man and the epitome of true grit.
He was preceded in death by his parents, Oris and Ola Hare; by three sisters: Maxine Wolfe, Willie Jo Deason, and Bettye Ann Smith; by his great-grandson McClane Mandujano, and by his beloved son in law Kenneth Crowe, whom he thought of as a son.
He is survived by his devoted and cherished wife, Ruth Hare; two sons: Oris David (Teresa) Hare of Hoover, Alabama; and Tim (Jenny) Hare of Ragland, Alabama; two daughters: Joanne Crowe of Ragland, Alabama; and Beth (Evan) Bain of Southside, Alabama; a brother: Gerald (Gail) Hare of Pell City, Alabama; 11 Grandchildren; 14 Great-Grandchildren; and several nieces and nephews. He is also survived by his little dog, Zoey, who was his constant companion.
Funeral services will be 11:00 A.M. Wednesday, January 15, 2014 at Usrey Funeral Home, Pell City, with Matthew Crowe, Roger Harman and Doug Ford officiating. Burial will follow at Ragland Methodist Cemetery.
The family will receive friends Tuesday from 5-7 PM at the funeral home.
