Obituary of Joseph E. Hare

Dr. Joseph E. Hare, 93 years of age, passed away January 21, 2013 at his home. He was a native of Talladega, educated in Talladega and attended the University of Alabama for two years. He joined the Alabama National Guard where he left with the 82 others for Camp Blanding, FL on December 19, 1940. After two years he was sent to Officers Training School in Ft. Benning, GA. Upon successful Graduation he was sent to the 100th Division in Ft. Jackson Columbia, South Carolina. He later he transferred to the Air force. Upon completion of his training he was sent to Langley Field in Virginia. He was assigned as an instructor and was there for the duration of WWII.
Upon release from active duty he returned to the University of Alabama and completed 2 years of Pre-dentistry. He was accepted into the first class of the newly developed dental school. Upon graduation four years later her moved to Anniston, AL and worked for a little over a year and then returned home to Talladega where he practiced Dentistry for 35 years. During this time he became an active member of the First United Methodist Church for over 50 years, He was one of the organizers of the Red Door Kitchen and the organizers of then Citizens Bank (currently PNC Bank) where he served on the Board of Directors for a number of years. He was a long time member of the Kiwanis Club.
He was preceded in death by his parents, William Arden and Pearle Caldwell Hare and his wife of 60 years, Marilyn Hare, grandson, Joseph Fred Hare, daughter-in-laws, Becky Hare and Nancy King.
Dr. Hare is survived by his sons, Joseph W. Hare and James Arden Hare, granddaughter, Lindsey Hare, grandson, Will Hare, brother, William Arden Bill Hare and wife Ann of Sylacauga, brother-in-law, Fred Fallman (Jane), niece Jane Hare Sims (Jim), nephews, Fred Fallman, Jr., Frank Fallman, Sam Fallman, Paul Fallman, Wright McAneny, Bob McAneny and a host of cousins.
Funeral service will be Wednesday, January 23, 2013 at 2 PM at The First United Methodist Church of Talladega. Rev. Minnie Stovall and Rev. Gary Ward will officiate and burial will be in Oak Hill Cemetery. His family will receive friends Tuesday from 5-7 PM at Usrey Funeral Home of Talladega.
Pallbearers will be Mort Caldwell, Todd Caldwell, Allen Grey McMillan, III, Allen McBride, George Sims, and Anthony Meacham.
Honorary pallbearers will be Tommy Spears, Jimmy Heacock, Bob McBride, Bobby Weaver, Paul Webb, Gary Fountain and members of the Kate Clardy Class and Fellowship Sunday School Class of First United Methodist Church.
In lieu of flowers, memorials can be made to the First United Methodist Church Building Fund, 400 Eat Street south, Talladega, AL 35160.
