Nancy Jane King, 56, went home to be with her Savior on Friday, Jan 4, 2013, after a long, valiant battle with cancer. Visitation will be at 5:00-7:00 on Sunday afternoon, Jan. 6, at the chapel of Usrey Funeral Home. Nancy was an active member of St. Peters, where she had served on the vestry, taught Sunday School, and was a member of the order Daughters of the King.
A graduate of the University of Alabama, Nancy was a beloved, award-winning teacher at Graham Elementary until health issues forced her early retirement. She and her students received citations from the Nature Conservancy and Earth Foundation for the work they did to save 242 acres of rainforest. Nancy was also an active participant in Arts Education, Callies Kids, and Relay for Life, among other education and civic endeavors.
Nancy King is survived by her son, Will Hare, of Tuscaloosa, who was the love of her life. She was the former wife of Wills father, Jim Hare of Talladega. Other survivors include two sisters and brothers-in-law, Cassandra King and Pat Conroy of Beaufort, SC; and Rebecca Schuler and Reggie Schuler of Pinckard, AL. Pallbearers are made up of her beloved nephews, Jim, Jason, Jake Ray; Eric, Kyle, Matt, Elliot Schuler. She is also survived by 10 great-nieces and nephews, and 1 great-great niece.
