Obituary of Michael Edward Gurley

Talladega - Michael Edward (Mike) Gurley, 65, passed away Monday, October 30, 2012, at Citizens Baptist Medical Center. Mr. Gurley was a native of Talladega graduating from Talladega High School in 1965 as an outstanding student. He attended the University Of Alabama receiving an undergraduate degree in Accounting. Mr. Gurley entered the University of Alabama School of Law receiving his Juris Doctorate degree in 1972. He opened his practice in Centreville, Alabama. In 1980 he became an Assistant Attorney General in Ohio. He practiced law in Colorado then returned to Alabama. He practiced in Birmingham until he semi-retired to Talladega, Alabama. Mr. Gurley was a fellow in the Roscoe M. Pound Foundation; Trustee in the Melvin Belli Society, a member of the American Bar Association, General Counsel for Fraternal Order of Police, General Counsel for Cattleman's Association, and served in many other professional organizations. Mr. Gurley was an avid Alabama fan. He served on the board of the Northeast Red Elephant Club. He attended football games and all other sports at the University. He was preceded in death by his parents Thomas Edward Gurley and Annice Davis Gurley and brother Thomas Gurley. He is survived by his wife, Kay Hill Gurley, son Michael Edward Gurley, Jr., daughter Catherine Gurley Raulston, and stepson Griff Hill. One grandson, Robert Ward Raulston, one step grandson, Mason Hill, step-granddaughters, Marley Hill and Madison Hill. The family will receive friends Thursday at Usrey Funeral Home from 2 to 3pm. Graveside service will Follow At 3:30pm _ Pine Hill Memorial Park conducted by Dr. Dennis Jones and Reverend Pat Hurst. In lieu of flowers the family requests contributions to the Whosoever Will Men's Bible Class. Pallbearers are Blake Harris, Dan Kearley, Pat Burrell, Hugh Sims, Morris Ansly and Mike Burgess. Honorary pallbearers will be members of the Whosoever Will Men's Bible Class.
