Elmer R. Cooper - Graveside Rites for Mr. Elmer Cooper will be Saturday, November 6 at 2pm at Hepzibah Baptist Church with Rev. Daryl Wood officiating. Visitation will be on Saturday, November 6 from 11am to 1pm at Usery Funeral Home. Mr. Cooper passed away November 4, 2010 at the age of 90.
Mr. Cooper was born in Elmore County but lived most of his life in Talladega.
Mr. Cooper served in the Army from 1942 to 1945. He served with the 2nd Armored Division "Hell On Wheels". His Army Campaigns include: North Africa 1942-43, Sicily 1943, France 1944 "Omaha Beach 6 June 1944 "D-Day" and "Battle Of The Bulge" December 1944. His Army Decorations include: Silver Star (Actions at the Battle of the Bulge), Purple Heart - Two Awards (Combat Wounded at the Bulge).
Mr. Cooper was employeed by Bemis Brother Bags for 40 years and then retired from maintenance with Talladega City Schools in 1998.
Mr. Cooper is survived by 4 children: Sons, Donald Cooper (Susan) of Montgomery, Al and Alton (Snook) Cooper (Sheryl) of Talladega; Daughters, Judy Cooper Johns (Ray) of Talladega and Sharon Cooper Shaddix (Ken) of Talladega; Five grandchildren, Robin Cooper, Cindy J. Blankemeyer, Shannon C. Weldon, Scott Shaddix, Dustin Cooper, Jay Johns and Clint Shaddix; 12 great-grandchildren.
Pallbearers will be: Robin Cooper, Scott Shaddix, Dustin Cooper, Jay Johns, Clint Shaddix and Harold Humphrey. Honorary Pallbearer will be Wayne Trammell.
Usrey Funeral Home in Talladega will direct the service.
