Funeral service for Mr. John Vinson "Tommie" Parton Sr., 90, will be 2 p.m. Friday, Nov. 5 at Usrey Chapel with Bro. Billy Dempsey and the Rev. Andy Mims officiating. Burial will be at Stockdale Baptist Cemetery. Mr. Parton died Wednesday, Nov. 3, 2010 at Citizens BMC, Talladega. He served in the Navy during World War II, Retired from Bemis Bag Co. and Talladega Water Department. He was preceded in death by his parents, John and Katie Parton; one sister, two brothers, one great-great-grandson and daughter, Ruby Hurst approximately six hours earlier. Survivors are his wife, Edith Parton of Talladega; son, John V. Parton,Jr. (Julia) of Talladega; daughter, Brenda Taylor (Doodle) of Talladega; son-in-law, Larry Hurst of Talladega; six grandchildren, Dewayne Chandler (Margaret), Stella Crim (Mike), Darlene Bishop (Russell), Vickie Gentry (Timmy) Patrick Parton (Lisa) and Bethany Mellon; 13 great-grandchildren and 14 great-great-grandchildren, five brothers and two sisters. Visitation will be 6-8 p.m. Thursday, Nov. 4 at Usrey. Pallbearers will be Mike Crim, Russell Bishop, Jason Bishop, Charles Crim, Johnny Crim, Johnny Hurst, and Josh Graves. Usrey Funeral Home in Talladega will direct the service.
