Funeral service for Kara Carpenter Edmiston, 95, will be Wednesday January 8, 2014 at 2:00 pm at Usrey Funeral Home Chapel. Joey Peters will officiate and burial will be in Pine Hill Memorial Park. Her family will receive friends Wednesday from 1-2 PM. Usrey Funeral Home of Talladega will direct.
Mrs. Edmiston passed away January 4, 2014 at Lineville Nursing Rehabilitation Center, Lineville Alabama.
She was preceded in death by her husband of 61 years, James Ray Edmiston; father, Cecil L. Carpenter; mother, Maudie Watts Carpenter; sisters, Christine Presley, Catherine Proctor, Bonnie McWilliams Hughston; brothers, John C. Carpenter and Walter Carpenter, all of Talladega.
Mrs. Edmiston was a native of Clay County, Alabama, living most of her adult years in Talladega, AL where she was a loving mother, grandmother, and great-grandmother. She was known for her cooking and proudly served her family and friends the excellent results. Her many sewing talents included beautiful hand-made quilts for all her children and families.
She is survived by her daughter, Joyce Edmiston Reaves (Carl) of Talladega; sons, Jerry Homer Edmiston (Margie) of Birmingham, Jacky Ray Edmiston (Candace) of Talladega and Larry James Edmiston (Lydia) of Gulf Breeze, FL; brother, Marvin Cecil Carpenter (Mary Jane) of Mississippi, grandchildren, Pamela Reaves Peters (Joey) of Talladega, Patti Reaves Burch (Tom) of Auburn, Brian Edmiston (Jessica) of Chelsea, Reid Edmiston (Beth) and Paul Edmiston (Brooke) of Birmingham, Kim Culpepper Johnson (Rodney) of Little Rock, Arkansas, April Edmiston Clardy (Brandon) of Talladega, Amy Culpepper Vu (Greg) of Douglasville, GA, John Thomas Edmiston of Birmingham, Lyndsey and Tyler Wright of Gulg Breeze, FL, 15 great-grandchildren: Joshua Riley (Eileen), Clay Riley, Hunter, Harrison and Hayden Burch, Ethan and Riley Edmiston, Jenna and Ava Johnson, Parker and Callie Clardy, Jack and Lyle Edmiston, Olivia Edmiston, and Gavin Vu.
Her grandsons will serve as pallbearers.
