Obituary of Ruth Roberts Embry

Funeral services for Ruth Roberts Embry, 99, of Munford, will be Monday, June 18, 2012 at 11:00 a.m. at First Baptist Church of Talladega. Rev. Terry Barksdale will officiate. She will lie in state one hour prior to the services. The family will receive friends on Sunday from 6-8 PM in the Thomas Chapel at the First Baptist Church. Burial will be at Oak Hill Cemetery in Talladega. Usrey Funeral Home of Talladega will officiate.
Surrounded by her family, Mrs. Embry peacefully left for her heavenly home on Friday, June 1 5 at NHC in Anniston. Survivors include her sons, Joe Embry (Wanda) Sevierville, Tenn.; Gowan Embry (Phyllis) Munford; Harry Embry, Jr. (Lyn) Munford and Rev. Ted Embry (Nora) Oxford. She is survived by four grandsons, Rick Embry (Hilary); Tim Embry, Greg Embry and Brian Embry, three granddaughters Traci Embry Martin (Steve); Karen Embry Davis (Joe) and Christi Embry Gillis (Sam). She is also survived by 11 great-grandchildren.
Born on March 19, 1913 to Richard Gowan Roberts and Ruth Woodward Roberts, Mrs. Embry graduated from Talladega High School, Judson College, and attended Auburn University. She was married in 1942 to CPO Harry Embry, Sr. of Talladega. After 22 years of Naval service, Mr. and Mrs. Embry settled in Talladega where they raised their four sons. She has been a member of First Baptist Church of Talladega since the age of 10, and was actively involved in the Andrew Jackson Chapter of the DAR, the Talladega County Historical Society, the Pilot Club, and volunteered for the American Red Cross and the Samaritan House.
Mrs. Embry was preceded in death by her husband, Harry Embry, Sr. a brother, Joseph Embry and two grandsons, Steve Embry and Matthew Embry.
In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to the American Cancer Society or the Alabama Baptist Children's Home.
Pallbearers include Rick Embry, Tim Embry, Greg Embry, Brian Embry Sam Gillis and Steve Martin.
