Obituary of Richard James McGowin

Richard James McGowin, 66, of Pell City, Alabama passed away Tuesday July 10, 2018. He was born April 25, 1952 in Jacksonville, Alabama to Grady Austin McGowin and Doris Elnora Gooden.  Both preceded Richard in death.  He has been married to Rita Carrol McGowin for 14 years.  He attended Mt. Moriah Baptist Church of Pell City.  In addition to his wife, he is survived by his children, Chris McGowin (Melanie),  Daniel McGowin (Brooke Pei-Hsuan), Andrew McGowin (Amanda), Coty McCann (Brad) and Jonah Ledlow;  siblings Roland Ray McGowin (Virginia), Evelyn Frances McGowin Tollison (Grady) and Robert A. McGowin (Barbara);   12 grandchildren and 1 great-grandchild.

A Memorial Service will be held at 2:00 pm on Sunday, July 15, 2018 at Usrey Funeral Home, 21271 U.S. Highway 231 North, Pell City, Alabama 35125, with Pastor Mickey Jones officiating.  The family will receive friends Sunday from 1:00 until 2:00 pm at the funeral home.

Respectful, quiet, fair, loving, honest, hard -working, dedicated and loyal are just a small number of words to describe God’s gift to all who knew Richard.  To borrow a saying from his brother in law, "If God put all of us men in a bottle ,shook us up, and had to pick a good man, God would pull Richard McGowin out every time”.

In lieu of flowers donations may be made to the McGowin Donation Account  at Metro Bank.
