Obituary of Thomas Claxton Alexander

~~Thomas Claxton Alexander of Pell City passed away peacefully at his home Thursday, September 14, 2017.

Mr. Alexander, “TC,” was born in Cropwell, Alabama on June 23, 1924, and was the youngest of 9 siblings to Marvin and Cora (Stephens) Alexander. TC married Hazel (Vinson) Alexander at First Baptist Church of Pell City on Easter Sunday, April 6, 1947, and served as a loving and caring husband and father.

Mr. Alexander was preceded in death by his wife Hazel, whom he lovingly called his “bride” for 66 years, and was also preceded in death by his grandson, John (Stephanie) Alexander. He is survived by two sons, Reed (Karen) Alexander and Rex (Carol) Alexander. Five grandsons include: Reed (Aerin) Alexander, Jr., David (Seana) Alexander, Chris (Heather) Alexander, Drew (Kristina) Alexander, and Tom Kitsmiller. Ten great-grandchildren include: Claire, Jack, Paul Garrett, Mary Raines, Jules, Hank, Thomas Fall, Isla Jane, George, Charlie, and Raines.

As a graduate of Pell City High School, Mr. Alexander went on to study at the University of Alabama, as well as Sewanee, prior to enlisting in the United States Marine Corps in 1943. As a Marine, he spent 33 months in the South Pacific during World War II and participated in the Battle of Okinawa on Easter Sunday, April 1, 1945

Mr. Alexander enjoyed a very successful career with Liberty National for over 30 years before retiring to travel with his wife. Having served as a volunteer fireman, President of the Quarterback Club, and Postmaster of Pell City, TC was also involved in the Lions Club and various other civic organizations throughout his lifetime. He enjoyed golf and Alabama football, and was a lifelong member of First Baptist Church of Pell City.

Services will be officiated by retired Reverend A.L. Courtney and Reverend Dr. John Thweatt at First Baptist Church. Visitation is Saturday at 10 a.m., followed by the funeral at 11 a.m.

In lieu of flowers, memorial donations may be made to First Baptist Church, 2309 2nd Ave N, Pell City, AL, 35125.
