James Virgil Pate, 69, of Pell City, Alabama, passed away on June 23, 2026.

James was always willing to help anyone in any way that he was able. He was a man with a big heart and he loved everyone who loved him.

He was preceded in death by his parents, Ada Ruth and Virgil Pate; brothers, Terry Pate and Neal Pate; sisters, Mildred Green and Nancy Kitchens; niece, Amy Skye Owens; nephew, Cecil "Bubba" Green; and great-nephew, Cody Kitchens.

James is survived by his daughters, Kelly Pate (Richard Holmes) and April Pate (James Casey); sisters, Janice Ledbetter and Judy Pate; and a multitude of beloved nieces and nephews.

The family will receive friends at Usrey Funeral Home – Pell City from 4:00 p.m. until 6:00 p.m. on Friday, June 26, 2026. The funeral service will be held at the funeral home at 11:00 a.m. on Saturday, June 27, 2026, followed by interment at Providence Baptist Cemetery in Ragland. Bro. Ryan Atwood will officiate the service.

Serving as pallbearers are Terry "Pee-wee" Pate, Scotty Pate, Jeffrey Pate, Justin Munkus, Trenten Higginbotham, Carson Kay and Jacob Kay.
