Arlen Hugh Otwell, 62, of Talladega passed away Wednesday, June 3, 2026, at UAB St. Vincent’s East Hospital in Birmingham. A funeral ceremony will be held in his honor at 1:00 P.M. on Saturday, June 06, 2026, at Usrey Funeral Home of Talladega with David Lipscombe officiating. His family will receive friends at the funeral home for one hour prior to the service. Interment will follow directly after the ceremony at Pine Hill Memorial Park.

Arlen was an avid outdoorsman and hunter and took particular happiness in sharing that love with others, especially his nieces and nephews. He was a wonderful uncle, loved for his sense of humor as a light-hearted jokester, and treasured his time taking his nieces and nephews hunting and teaching them how to properly dress turkey and deer.

He was known for his diligent work ethic, with more than three and a half decades as a welder and fitter at Talladega Specialty, now Talladega Castings & Machine Co. (TCMCO).

Mr. Otwell was preceded in death by his father, Franklin Otwell Sr.; sister, Kathy Waites; father-in-law, Billy Stines, and mother-in-law, Louise Stines.

He was a beloved husband to his wife, Kim Otwell, who he had been married to for 39 wonderful years and known for 41. Arlen was a beloved son to his mother, Vennie Otwell, and brother to Franklin Otwell Jr. (Debbie) and to his late sister, Kathy Waites. Arlen loved his family and was more of a brother than brother-in-law to Ava Ballard (Robert) and Molly Stines Johnson (Tommy). He is also survived by his nephews, Trae Otwell and Luke Johnson; nieces, Jessica Ballard, Olivia Johnson, and Taylor Johnson; great-nephew, Bobby Otwell, and a host of aunts, uncles, cousins, and friends which he cherished deeply.

Franklin Otwell Jr., Tommy Johnson, Robert Ballard, Harvey Bowlin, Kevin Hurst, and Danny Sedlazek will serve as pallbearers.
