Mildred Ann Disspain Trammell Obituary
Mildred Ann Disspain Trammell, 83, of Lincoln, passed away as the Sunday morning
sun rose on May 17, 2026, surrounded by her three daughters. A funeral service will be
held in her honor at 1:00 p.m., Friday, May 22, 2026 at Usrey Funeral Home in
Talladega with Reverand Steve Thomas officiating. Visitation will be one hour prior to
the service in the chapel.
Mrs. Trammell was a native of Talladega County and spent her entire life in Lincoln.
She was a 1961 graduate of Lincoln High School (Talladega County High School) and a
homemaker and mother while her children were young, then joined her husband in the
building, construction, renovation and real estate business in Central Alabama. She
was a tireless advocate for Lincoln, involved in civic duties and organizations for
decades.
She was the driving force behind the creation of the Historic Lincoln Preservation
Foundation, a founding member and it’s first and long-time President. She orchestrated
the acquisition of The Watson House, and worked on countless projects promoting the
city’s history. Many calls have been made to her when a question of history was asked,
as people remarked, “Call Mildred and ask her, she knows.”
Mrs. Trammell had a special gift for keeping her home meticulously neat, orderly and
decorated. This gift spilled over into dozens of homes and buildings in the Lincoln area,
as she, alongside her husband, renovated and brought to life many projects, including
homes on Magnolia Street, the old Lincoln High School campus and in the downtown
area.
Her family was first in her life, raising her girls through tirelessly volunteering in the
Lincoln schools, sports organizations and always present in the stands as they cheered,
marched and learned their way to adulthood. She took on the role of sewing and
creating everything from cheerleader uniforms to prom dresses and pageant wear for
her girls. Later, she took great pride in her grandchildren, and continued the loyal
support at any and all activities they were involved in. Her great-grandchildren were her
latest pride and joy, and her smile lit the room when they walked in the door for a visit,
as she hugged and kissed them and threatened to put a brick on their head to keep
them from getting taller.
Mrs. Trammell spent the last year grieving the loss of the love of her life, as her
husband of 64 years, Edward Trammell, preceded her in death. Also preceding her
were her parents, Dave and Audrey (Forrest) Disspain, her brothers Tommy, Charlie
and Dave and her sister Bobbie Disspain. She is survived by her daughters Kelly Love
(Bill), Kim Wolfenbarger (Lane), and Tammy Nichols, and her sister Fran Bowman and
brother Jim Disspain. She is also survived by her grandchildren Edward Joseph Love,
Madeline Stokes, Spencer Bradley Porch, Landon Smiith, Emily (Bitty) Smith and Cole
Wolfenbarger, and her three great-grandsons, Everett Love, Bodie Love and Alder
Stokes.
Pallbearers will be Edward Joseph Love, Cole Wolfenbarger, Spencer Porch, Landon
Smith, Michael Disspain and Dillon Garrison. Honorary pallbearers will be Lew Watson,
Cecil Garrison, Bryan Disspain, Tony Parker, Mike Varnes, Jackie Varnes, and Harvey Trammell.
Flowers are appreciated, or donations may be made to Historic Lincoln Preservation
Foundation, P.O. Box 528, Lincoln, AL 35096.
The family extends their deepest gratitude to Lakeside Hospice and hospice nurse
LeighAnn Thomas for their compassionate care and support during Mrs. Trammell’s last
year and final days in their care.
