Charles Marshall Hawkins Obituary

Charles Marshall Hawkins, 78, of Talladega, AL passed away on Monday, March 30, 2026. A graveside ceremony will be held in his honor at 11:00 A.M. on Friday, April 03, 2026, at Forest Crest Cemetery.


Charles was born in Holopaw, FL on October 13, 1947, but his family moved to Birmingham, AL soon after in 1949. He grew up in Moody and attended St. Clair County High School. Mr. Hawkins had a profound love of music which he demonstrated as a musician in his own group, The Jaguars, in the 1960s.


During his lengthy professional career, he held many different jobs and titles. After a period with Executone in Brimingham, Mr. Hawkins began a career at the Department of Justice where he eventually retired as an associate warden for the Federal Bureau of Prisons. He later worked at the Patrick Henry Academy and Ace Electronics in Estill, SC. Charles concluded his diverse career at Hampton County Airport in South Carolina, where he also retired.


Mr. Hawkins had many interests including gold prospecting, golfing, and airplanes. He was a devoted family man who loved God and his family and built his life on his strong Christian faith. He was a member of Lawtonville Baptist Church for over 10 years. He taught Sunday school and served as a deacon. Charles also sang in the choir where he enjoyed lifting his voice up in praise. He left many beloved friends behind, but he lived with the assurance that he would meet them again one day.


He was preceded in death by his parents, Claude and Lois Hawkins, and brother, Dewey Hawkins.


Mr. Hawkins is survived by his wife of 59 years, Patricia Shaner Hawkins; daughter, Stephanie Hawkins Morrison (Russ); grandson, Logan McMichen (Sydney); great-granddaughter, Salem Rose; sister, Billie Pearsall, and a host of nieces, nephews, and cousins.
