Doris Peeples Allen Obituary
Doris Peeples Allen, born on May 30, 1931, in Talladega, Alabama, passed away on March 19, 2021, at her home in Talladega.
Doris was born in Talladega to Adele (née Sides) and J. C. Peeples and remained deeply connected to the place she always considered home. She graduated from Talladega High School in 1948. As a young woman, she loved spending afternoons at the Ritz Theatre on the square, happily settling in for a full double feature.
In the years that followed, Doris found joy in life’s simple pleasures—playing cards with friends, paging through cookbooks, and trying out new recipes to share with those she loved. She was especially devoted to her family and took great delight in being a grandmother, treating her granddaughter to adventures, shopping trips, and special time together that will be long remembered.
Doris lived for many years in Fort Oglethorpe, Georgia, before returning to Talladega to care for her mother—a reflection of her steady devotion and sense of family.
She is survived by her son, Clarence “Sonny” Cook, III (Mickey); her granddaughters, Chloe Cook (Josh) and Andrea Howle (Johnny); her great-grandchildren, Clea Clementine Collins and Dawson Howle (Peyton), and her great-great-grandson, Jett Howle.
She was preceded in death by her loving husband, William “Bill” Allen; her son, Donald “Donny” Cook; her brother, James Peeples; and her parents.
A graveside service will be held on Saturday, March 21, 2016, at Oak Hill Cemetery in Talladega, Alabama with Dr. Robert Klotz officiating.
In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to: Whosoever Will Men’s Class Foundation, P.O. Box 299. Talladega, Alabama 35161.
Usrey Funeral Home of Talladega is directing the service.
