Betty Canada White Obituary

Mrs. Betty Canada White of Eastaboga, AL, age 82, passed away at UAB St. Vincent’s Birmingham on Friday, February 27, 2026, after a brief illness.

Betty was born to Elaine and James Amos Canada Jr. of Eastaboga, AL in 1943. She graduated from Lincoln High School in 1961 and went on to study at Alabama College.

After graduation, Betty moved to Pensacola, FL where she met Robert White of Memphis, TN, stationed there during his service with the United States Navy. Betty and Sonny were married in 1966 and lived in St. Louis, Houston, and New Orleans before returning home to Eastaboga to raise a family.

Betty retired from teaching after 25 years at Ophelia S. Hill Elementary School in Munford, AL. Teaching was her career and also her lifelong passion. She had a deep love of reading and learning which she instilled in her students and inspired her own children, always encouraging curiosity and an eagerness to learn.

Betty’s love and devotion to her husband and her two children leave a void that can never be filled. She was endlessly loyal and loving to those closest to her. She was warm, compassionate, and loved, and will remain ever so.

Betty was preceded in death by her parents, Elaine and James Amos Canada Jr., and her sister, Melanie Harris.

She is survived by her loving husband of 59 years, Sonny, and their two children, Jedidiah (Amber) and Jessica. She also leaves behind two sisters, Jan Rosas (Bob) and Karene Stricklin; granddaughter, Shelby; caretaker and friend, Katrina; sister-in-law, Stacey, and nieces and nephews.

A funeral service is to be held at Craig Memorial United Methodist Church in Eastaboga, AL on Wednesday, March 04, 2026, between 3:00 P.M. and 4:30 P.M.
