Bettye Joyce Estes Rester Obituary

It is with heavy hearts and a wealth of fond memories that we announce the passing of Bettye Joyce Estes Rester on February 15, 2026. A woman who dedicated her life to the care of others and her spirit to the “ROLL TIDE” roar.

Born in Jasper, Alabama, on February 12, 1933, Bettye lived a life defined by ambition, service, and an unwavering love for her family. Bettye’s professional journey was nothing short of inspiring. After Graduating from Talladega High School, she pursued her calling at the Sylacauga School of Nursing. Her thirst for knowledge and excellence eventually led her to earn a Master’s Degree in Nursing from UAB Birmingham. Over the decades, she left an indelible mark on the medical community across the Southeast. From teaching the next generation of nurses in Gadsden to her tireless work at Anniston Memorial, Talladega Hospital, Anderson Regional, and Baptist Medical in Montgomery, Bettye was a pillar of strength in every ward she walked. She finally hung up her stethoscope after a distinguished tenure at Monroe Regional Hospital in Louisiana.

Retirement didn’t mean slowing down for Bettye. After moving to Crestview, Florida, she kept her mind sharp and her social circle wide by trying her hand at Real Estate and sharing her characteristic wit with those she met while working part-time at Walmart. When she wasn’t caring for patients or family, Bettye found peace in the simple joys of reading, needlework, and tending to her flowers. However, her most spirited “job” was serving as the best armchair coach the University of Alabama could ever ask for. On Saturdays, her loyalty to the Tide was unmatched.

Bettye was preceded in death by her beloved parents, William H. Estes and Evie Cunningham Estes.

Her legacy of strength and independence lives on through her children, Francis Edward (Chip) Rester II of Montgomery, AL, Monica Colleen Rester of Crestview, FL, and William Michael (Bill) Rester of Jacksonville, FL. She is also survived by her three grandchildren, Nicholas Rester of Crestview, FL, Lynsey Rester Patterson of Talladega, AL, and Matthew Rester of Panama City Beach, FL, and her great-grandson, Ethan Ellis of Talladega,AL.

The family invites you to join them in celebrating Bettye’s remarkable journey on Saturday, February 21st. A viewing will be held from 10:00 AM to 12:00 PM at Usrey Funeral Home in Talladega, AL. A graveside service will follow at 2:00 PM at Pine Hill Memorial Park, where she will be laid to rest alongside her parents.

Bettye will be remembered not just for the degrees on her wall, but for the warmth in her

heart and the fierce love she held for her family. She was a healer, a teacher, and a

lifelong fan who now has the best seat in the house for the next kickoff.
