Blanchie Elizabeth “Shirley” Roberts, 82, of Pell City, AL passed away on Thursday, January 22, 2026.

Mrs. Roberts was a native of Talladega and spent most of her life in Alpine. Her and her loving husband, Howard, were the owners of Roberts Grocery for many years. She loved animals and tending to plants, and her friendly nature ensured that she easily made many friends. She had a feisty, tenacious spirit, and she never hid her feelings. Shirley was a wonderful aunt who loved her nieces and nephews with all of her hearts. She had a particularly close relationship with her nieces and nephews, Penny (Gary), Angie (Tony), Chris (Beth), and Zach. A devoted mother and “Nanny”, she never missed an event or opportunity to support her family, and they never had to wonder if she loved them or not.

She was preceded in death by her husband of 59 years, Howard Roberts, siblings, James Sewell, Ruth Brown, Clayton Sewell, Arvie Hann, Alpha Hollen, and Cassie Dunaway Wessell, and parents, James and Millie Sewell.

Mrs. Roberts is survived by her sons, Jamie Roberts (Connie) and John Roberts; granddaughters, Jessica Holt (Dustin) and Kelsi Moody (Dawson); great-grandchildren, Gunner Holt and Dallas Moody; sister, Zaddie Dunaway, and a host of nieces and nephews.

In lieu of flowers, Shirley’s family asks that donations be made to the American Heart Association, American Cancer Society, or Humane Society.
