Johnny Ray Jenkins, age 74, was born on July 2, 1951, in Fayetteville, Alabama, and grew up in Talladega, Alabama, surrounded by a large family. He passed on December 29, 2025, in Alabaster, Alabama, at home.
Johnny Ray was known as “Johnny” to his coworkers at Crown Textile Mill, where he worked for over 27 years until the mill closed. To family and friends, he was known simply as Ray. He later spent his final working years at Talladega Machine Company.
He was preceded in death by his wife, Linda Mintz Jenkins; his stepson, Robert Baird; his parents, J.H. Jenkins and Roxie Jenkins; his brothers, Leonard Jenkins and Arthur Jenkins; and his sisters, Ruby Jenkins and Martha Jenkins Hood.
He is survived by his sisters: Linda Jenkins, Brenda Bowman, Barbara Bowman, Helda Haywood (Ralph), and JoAnn Sexton (Frank); and his brother, Gene Jenkins. He is also survived by numerous nieces and nephews.
He also leaves behind his daughters, Susan Rae Cooper (Justin) and Crystal Keith; his grandchildren, Payton Cooper (Abby), Mallory Cooper, Madison Keith, and Jackson Keith; and his great-grandson, Brooks Cooper.
The family wishes to sincerely thank Affinity Hospice and Mending Hearts for their care, compassion, and support during Ray’s final days.
In accordance with the family’s wishes, no services will be held.
