Jerry Ray St. John Obituary

On December 3, 2025, Jerry Ray St. John, 78, a small-town Southern man, went to be with his Lord in Heaven.

Jerry’s life began in Ragland, Alabama, the youngest son of hardworking parents, Bessie and Clyde St. John. During his childhood the family moved to Pell City, Alabama where Jerry would graduate from Pell City High School Class of ’67. Soon after graduation, he was drafted into the Army and began serving during the Vietnam war until his honorable discharge on September 1, 1973.

After returning home to Pell City, he met and married the love of his life, Clara Mae Anderson. They began a family of five children. Jerry worked at the Anniston Army Depot until he retired. He also worked his Daddy’s land raising cows, huge gardens, hunting dogs, and generations of kids, grandkids, and great-grandkids. He was always grateful for what he had and would lend a helping hand to anyone.

He is preceded in death by his parents, Bessie and Clyde St. John; brothers, Lewis St. John, Johnny St. John, and William St. John; and sisters, Josephine Yarborough and Shirley Tollison.

He is survived by his wife, Clara St. John; daughters, Monica Lynn St. John, Rebecca Lyn St. John, and Shannon Rae St. John; sons, Jered St. John (Pamela) and James St. John (Beatrice); eleven grandchildren; eighteen great-grandchildren; sister, Barbara Price; and a host of nieces, nephews, and friends.

Friends are invited to pay tribute to this brave, fearless, devoted, hard-working, legendary hero from 1:00 p.m. until 2:00 p.m. on Friday, December 5, 2025 at Usrey Funeral Home – Pell City, followed by the funeral service at 2:00 p.m. with Bro. Andy Smith officiating. Interment will be at St. Clair Memorial Gardens.

Jerry’s family would like to extend their heartfelt thanks to his nephew, Roland St. John, long-time friends, Steve Poe, Widrow Wilson, and Gaynel Knight.
