Reed Alexander Obituary

Thomas “Reed” Alexander, 77, a lifelong resident of Pell City, Alabama, passed away peacefully on November 18, 2025—just in time for his standing 1 p.m. tee time in heaven.

Born on July 19, 1948, Reed lived a life marked by devotion, hard work, and quiet generosity. He was a loving husband, a proud father, and an even prouder grandfather of seven. Reed served as the CEO and Chairman of the Board at Union State Bank, where his leadership, integrity, and vision shaped not only the institution but the community it served. His leadership journey began early—elected SGA class president in high school—and continued throughout his life, including service on various community organizations and the Highlands Falls Country Club Membership Committee Board.

Reed attended the University of Alabama School of Law and passed the bar exam, a milestone he cherished, though he chose not to practice. His talents and passions led him instead into banking and business, where his work impacted countless lives.

He was happiest outdoors—golfing on some of the world’s most iconic courses, including Pebble Beach, St. Andrews, Pinehurst, and Wailea in Hawaii; tending to his garden; or spending time at his “happy place,” his farm in Talladega, where he and his best buddy, his 13-year-old Boykin Spaniel, Carolina, spent many afternoons and weekends together.

With his grandchildren, “Papa” was tender, generous, and always armed with a quick sense of humor, often culminating in competitive Easter egg hunts or four-leaf clover finding contests.

Reed leaves behind the love of his life, his beloved “Ms. Baby,” Karen Alexander; his three sons, Reed Alexander Jr., David Alexander (Seana), and Drew Alexander (Kristina); and his cherished grandchildren: Thomas Fall Alexander, George Alexander, Claire Garrison (Cole), Paul Garrett Alexander, Jules Alexander, Hank Alexander, and Isla Jane Alexander.

He is also survived by his brother, Rex Alexander, and many beloved nieces and nephews.

Reed was preceded in death by his parents, Thomas Claxton Alexander and Hazel Vinson Alexander.

His family will gather for a private graveside service. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to Lakeside Hospice in recognition of the tremendous care they provided to the family and continue to provide to the community.

Reed will be remembered for his unwavering love for his family, his generous spirit, and the simple but powerful prayer he once offered when he misplaced his notes as SGA president: “Thank you, God, for everything. Amen.” It became a family prayer—and now, a legacy.
