Merle Lewis Whitaker, a devoted father, cherished grandfather, husband, and loyal brother, passed away peacefully on October 30, 2025, leaving behind a legacy of quiet strength, unwavering integrity, and deep family love. The family will receive friends at Usrey Funeral Home Monday November 3, 2025, 10:30 am - 12:00 pm. A graveside service in Mr. Whitakers honor will follow at Barfield Cemetery in Lineville AL. AT 1:00 PM.

Born to Pvt. Stanley Whitaker and Maelene Whitaker, Merle grew up rooted in the values of hard work, honor, and kinship. He carried these principles throughout his life, earning the respect of all who knew him through his dependable nature and generous spirit.

Merle is survived by his beloved children: Glori Whitaker Hart (Jonathan), Stephanie Whitaker, and Steven Whitaker; his former wife, Betty Eden, and his four adored grandchildren, Kaleigh, Karmindi, Easton, and Ezekiel, who brought him immeasurable joy in their years. He is also survived by his brothers Jon Whitaker, William Whitaker, and Richard Whitaker, and his sisters Ginger Whitaker Howard, Janis Murner, and Doris Whitaker Murner—siblings who shared a lifetime of memories, laughter, and mutual support, and a host of nieces and nephews.

He was preceded in death by his parents, Pvt. Stanley and Maelene Whitaker, and his brothers Travis Whitaker and Glenn Whitaker.

A man of few words but profound presence, Merle lived with honor and left the world better for having been in it. His family will remember him not only for what he gave, but for the quiet way he showed them how to live—with dignity, loyalty, and love.
