Jewel Harrington Brown Gibbs Obituary

Jewel H. Gibbs, beloved mother, grandmother, and great-grandmother, passed away on Friday October 3, 2025 in Anniston.

Jewel was first married to Donald Brown, who passed away early in their life together, and later to Welton L. Gibbs, who preceded her in death in 2016. Though she experienced great loss, she lived a life full of strength, kindness, and quiet devotion to her family.

She is survived by her daughters, Pamela (Sam) Stinson and Vickie (Michael) Lambert, and her son, Don Brown. She was the proud grandmother of Leslie (Steven) Cruse, Kristen Duke, Brittney (Brandon) Whetstone, and Katelyn (Lyndon)Crews. She was also blessed with four great-grandchildren, Chloey and Oliver Cruse, Garrett and Kaden Whetstone who brought her endless joy.

Jewel worked at Offray Ribbon until the company closed, and later retired from Jacksonville State University after many years of service. She selflessly cared for her husband Welton in his final years, reflecting the love and loyalty she carried throughout her life.

She loved the simple pleasures most: tending her flowers, watching the birds from her kitchen window, and spending time outdoors. Jewel was a fabulous baker, known for her friendship cakes, sourdough bread, and pecan pies that she lovingly shared with family and friends. She was also a talented seamstress and could often be found at her sewing machine. Her family will always remember her sweet tooth for Nutter Butters and cordial cherries.

More than anything, Jewel will be remembered for her strength, resilience, and devotion to her family. She leaves behind a legacy that will continue to live on in the hearts of those who loved her most.

Her family will forever carry her in their hearts and miss her dearly.

The family would like to offer special thanks to NHC Healthcare and Inhabit Hospice for their excellent and special care of their mother.
