Robert Coleman Lumpkin Obituary

Robert Coleman Lumpkin, devoted husband to Beth Lumpkin and proud

father to Allen Lumpkin, 46, of Brookhaven, GA, and Cole Lumpkin, 43, of

Sandy Springs, GA, passed away peacefully surrounded by his family on

September 10, 2025.

He was preceded in death by his parents, Hugh Weyman and Mary

Lumpkin. He is survived by his loving wife Beth; his sons Allen (Judith)

and Cole (Caitlyn); and his five cherished grandchildren: Jackson,

Graham, James, Anne Coleman, and Caroline.

Robert—affectionately known as Bobby to his wife, Bob or Bullet Bob to

his friends, and Pop to his grandchildren—was born in Talladega on July

23, 1949. He grew up in the Bemiston community, where he made

lifelong friendships and countless memories. He graduated from

Talladega High School, earning four varsity letters in both football and

baseball. He was proud to serve as a quarterback on the Tigers’ 1963

state championship football team, still the school’s only state title in its

history.

He went on to attend the University of Alabama, where he majored in

Industrial Engineering and joined the Kappa Sigma fraternity. It was there

that he met his beloved Beth, a Mountain Brook native. After graduation,

he began his professional career with Newberry before joining Talladega

Machinery and Supply, where he dedicated 35 years until his retirement

in 2016.

Bob was a devoted husband and a wonderful father. He found joy in

coaching his sons’ youth sports teams, playing golf with friends, watching

the Crimson Tide on Saturdays, and cheering for the Atlanta Braves. He

treasured time with his grandchildren, proudly supporting them from the

sidelines and embracing every moment as Pop! Miramar Beach and

Destin held a special place in his heart, where he loved relaxing by the

shore with his family. He was also a lifeline long member of the Methodist

Church, serving on the finance committee for several years.

Those who knew Bob will remember his humor, warmth, and unwavering

devotion to family. His lessons, love, and presence will live on in all who

were fortunate enough to know him. He will be deeply missed.

Special thanks to the wonderful women that took excellent care of him in

Talladega. Dr. Ann Davis, Carolyn Tuck, Pat Elston, Sharon Dykes,

Stacey Colley, Alice Wallace, and Tressey Spencer. The family would

also like to thank Somerby in Sandy Springs and Sympathy Hospice

care.

A celebration of life will be held on Sunday, September 14, 2025 at

2:00pm at First Methodist Church in Talladega, Alabama. The family will

receive friends beginning at 1pm in the church parlor.
