Ralph "Roger" Harman Obituary

Ralph "Roger" Harman was born on July 14, 1960, in Anniston, Alabama. He spent most of his childhood in the woods behind his parents’ home in Weaver, Alabama, creating unique and imaginative ways to have fun. He loved to read and had many fond memories of fishing with his dad and hunting with his uncles. However, young Roger's favorite pastime was pestering his younger sister, Kim. He dreamed of one day becoming a park ranger or an archaeologist. He possessed an extensive knowledge of plant life and history.

Roger graduated from Weaver High School in 1978, where he excelled in music as a decorated member of the Marching Matadors and the Weaver High School Choir. His love of music ran deep and led him to learn to play the guitar and mandolin. This passion was also a major reason for his pursuit of a career in radio broadcasting. Roger worked as a local DJ and program director for various stations in Calhoun and St. Clair counties from 1979 to 1997. He earned two Associate of Arts degrees from Ayers State Technical College in Industrial Pattern Making and Industrial Electronics and was a member of Phi Theta Kappa National Honor Society.

Beginning in 1998, Roger spent 25 years working as an Electronics Technician for AT&T. He was a master of his craft and was loved and relied upon by every co-worker.

Roger put on Christ in baptism in 1969. He loved the Lord and His Word with all his heart. For 15 years, he ministered to the Ragland Church of Christ and was loved by everyone.

On September 18, 1989, Roger married the former Ms. Kara King of Oxford, Alabama. They were married for 27 years until her death in 2017.

Two years after Kara’s passing, Roger found love again. He married the former Mrs. Vicki Angel on December 7, 2019. Together they enjoyed the happiest years of his life. Roger was a loving and devoted father and grandfather to his son Erik, stepchildren, and grandchildren. He was also a treasured uncle to his nieces and nephews.

Roger passed from this life on August 2, 2025, at the age of 65. He is survived by his parents, Ralph and Frankie Harman; sister, Kim (Steve); his beloved wife, Vicki; son, Erik (Toni); stepchildren, Joy Angel, Clifton Angel (Lara), and Jillian Hopson (Corey); six grandchildren; and many nieces and nephews.

A funeral service will be held at Usrey Funeral Home – Pell City at 12:00 p.m. on Saturday, August 9, 2025, with Bro. Erik Harman, Bro. Clifton Angel, and Bro. Mark Martin officiating. The family will receive friends from 11:00 a.m. until the time of service.

Serving as pallbearers are James Pendley, Grant Powell, Doug Fuller, Kyle Wilkerson, Daniel Kilgore, and Daniel Langley. Honorary pallbearers are Luke Powell and Rance Patterson.

In lieu of flowers, the family kindly requests that memorial contributions be made to Memphis School of Preaching, 3950 Forest Hill Irene Road, Memphis, TN 38125.
