Megan Campbell Carpenter Obituary
Megan Campbell Carpenter, a lifelong resident and ardent supporter of the Talladega community, passed away on May 23, 2025 at the age of 44. She was a loving wife, a doting mother, and a beloved aunt, sister, daughter, niece, cousin and friend.
Megan was born on July 26, 1980 in Talladega, Alabama, the second daughter to Harvey Burk (Buddy) Campbell, Jr. and Sandra Campbell. She attended Talladega City Schools, graduated from the University of Alabama with a degree in marketing and communications, and later earned a law degree from the Birmingham School of Law. Along the way, she met and married Gabe Carpenter, a transplant to the area. They had two beautiful daughters who Megan loved dearly. Megan and Gabe worked together as attorneys at the Alabama Consumer Law Group, LLC (formerly Campbell & Campbell), alongside Megan’s father, mother, sisters, aunt and other folks close enough to call family. Megan’s work consisted primarily of bankruptcy and consumer-related issues, which requires a good deal of empathy. Megan’s caring didn’t stop at the close of business, though. Over the years, she was an active member of several charitable organizations, including the Girl Scouts, the Junior Welfare League, the United Way and Talladega Main Street. She had always been concerned for the children of Talladega, and in 2023, she was elected to the Talladega City School Board, where she sought to ensure that the children in our community got the best education possible.
Megan’s life was far too short, but it was wide and full—full of family, friends, community, and purpose. We should all be so lucky.
Megan was preceded in death by her paternal grandparents, Dr. Buddy Campbell, Sr. and Mary Ed Campbell; her maternal grandparents, Robert and Ruth Jones; her step-grandfather, Howard Goss; her aunt, Susan Rotenstein; and her cousin, Dan Campbell Bussey.
She is survived by her loving husband, Gabe, and their precious daughters, Adelaide and Evie. Megan also leaves behind her parents, Buddy Jr. and Sandy Campbell; siblings, Katie (Adam) Campbell, Molly (Corey) Smitherman, and Buddy III (Mary) Campbell; and many adored aunts, uncles, nieces, nephews, and cousins.
The family will receive friends from 5:00 P.M. to 7:00 P.M. on Tuesday, May 27, 2025 at Usrey Funeral Home in Talladega. A celebration of life will be held at 2:00 P.M. on Wednesday, May 28, 2025 at St. Peter’s Episcopal Church. Burial will follow at Pine Hill Memorial Park
