John Wilburn Stewart, 76, of Alpine, AL passed away on Thursday, May 01, 2025. His family will receive friends at Usrey Funeral Home of Talladega on Tuesday, May 06, 2025, from 6:00 P.M. until 8:00 P.M. A funeral ceremony will be held in his honor at the funeral home on Wednesday, May 07, 2025, at 11:00 A.M. with Ron Hurst officiating. Interment will follow directly after the service at Hillcrest Cemetery.
Mr. Stewart was a native and lifelong resident of Talladega County, and he graduated from Winterboro High School in 1966. He proudly served in the United States Army during the Vietnam War and was awarded the Purple Heart. Mr. Stewart retired from Lee Rodgers General Tire after over 30 years of service. He was a member of Childersburg Church of Christ where he was baptized in his younger years. Mr. Stewart was a cheerful jokester who was affectionately known to everyone as “Johnny”. He loved everyone, but he didn’t like you if he wasn’t picking on you. Johnny was an avid University of Alabama fan who could always be found with a flashlight in his hand. He also enjoyed collecting a vast assortment of things including coins. Mr. Stewart loved his family deeply especially his grandchildren. He was a dedicated husband, father, and “Granddaddy” who will be missed greatly.
He was preceded in death by his son, Philip J. Stewart, and his parents, Max and Ruby Stewart.
Mr. Stewart is survived by his wife of 55 years, Beverly M. Stewart; daughter, Susanne Willis (Ryan); grandchildren, Alex Williamson (Payton), Andrew Williamson, Kylee Willis (Sam), and Hunter Willis; siblings, Curtis L. “Jackie” Limbaugh (Cathy), Judy Burk, Sandra Kearley, Sharon McKinnon, David Stewart (Pama), and Debbie Stewart, and a host of nieces and nephews.
Brandon Pressley, Hunter Willis, Alex Williamson, Andrew Williamson, Josh Hickman, and Aimee Stewart will serve as pallbearers.
Josh McDonald and Sam Shiver will serve as honorary pallbearers.
