Obituary of Talmadge Cornelius Gaither

Talmadge Cornelius Gaither, 75, of Talladega, Alabama passed away peacefully at his home in Alpine on Wednesday, April 23, 2025. Funeral services will be held at Usrey Brown Funeral Home in Talladega, Alabama on Saturday, April 26, 2025 at 11:00 A.M. His family will receive friends at the funeral home for one hour prior to the service. Burial will follow at Alpine Baptist Church Cemetery, Alpine-Winterboro Road, Alpine, AL. Talmadge was a graduate of Lincoln High School in 1967. He then joined the United States Air Force where he became a Staff Sergeant and served as a jet engine mechanic on C-130s. Afterwards, Talmadge enrolled in Nunnley Community College (now known as Central Alabama Community College) where he was the founder and first president of the Student Government. Talmadge retired from Kimberly Clark, Bowater, and Talladega County Commission. He is survived by his wife of 19 years, Sherry Jane Gaither; sons, Phillip Gaither (Elizabeth) and Steven Gaither (Janie); stepson, David Honeycutt (Autumn); six grandchildren, Conner Gaither, Lauren Gaither, Ian Gaither, Gracie Gaither, Melody Oglesby (Cary), Brent Reaves (Kayla), and Delilah Honeycutt; sisters, Nettie Carole Studdard (Ray) and Lillie Ruth Dobbs (Donald), sister-in-law Carole Glover, brother-in-law Charles Alsabrook, aunt-in-law Doris Davidson, and a host of nieces and nephews. He is preceded in death by his parents Otis Cornelius Gaither and Nannie Mae Goray Gaither; sisters, Lora Mae Gaither, Emma Gene Barnes (Billy); brothers, Clyde Gaither (Dorothy), W.A. Gaither (Elaine), Paul Gaither (Edwina), and Louie Gaither (Brenda); and grandson Declan Robert Honeycutt. May his kind and beautiful soul find eternal peace in the heavens above. Before his passing, Talmadge requested that in lieu of flowers that donations be made to the No Kid Go Hungry Organization or to the charity of your choice.
