Obituary of Robert Wayne Sargent

Robert Wayne Sargent, 73, of Talladega, AL passed away peacefully at his home on Monday, April 21, 2025. His family will receive friends at Usrey Funeral Home of Talladega on Thursday, April 24, 2025 from 5:00 P.M. until 7:00 P.M. A funeral ceremony will be held in his honor at the funeral home on Friday, April 25, 2025 at 11:00 A.M. with Rev. Billy Curry officiating. Interment will follow directly after the service at Germany Cemetery. Mr. Sargent was a native and lifelong resident of Talladega, and he was a proud graduate of Winterboro High School. In his younger years, he was baptized at Cragdale Baptist Church. Wayne was a very hardworking and wonderful provider for his family who never missed a day of work. He worked for the Talladega County Road Department and Blankenship Logging before retiring from APAC after 17 years of service. Mr. Sargent lived on Germany Mountain for over 50 years where he could always be found happily working in his yard. He enjoyed many other outdoor activities including hunting and fishing. He also loved watching NASCAR, wrestling, and Auburn University football games, but he especially loved spending time with his granddaughters. He was a very loving father and “Paw-Paw” who will be greatly missed. He was preceded in death by his wife of 48 years, Rita Sue Sargent, parents, James R. and Geraldine Sargent, and grandson, Dillon Sargent. Mr. Sargent is survived by his sons, Brian Jason Sargent and Clayton Wayne Sargent (Haley); granddaughters, Ariel Sargent, Ava Sargent, and Amber Sargent; sister, Diane Gaither, and brother, David Sargent. Brian Sargent, Clayton Sargent, Tommy Pitts, Josh Blankenship, Frankie Blankenship, and Kaleb Martin will serve as pallbearers. Mr. Sargent's family would like to extend a very heartfelt thank you to all of the staff at Aveanna Hospice in Pell City especially Kelly McDonald and Leacher Chatman whose exceptional care will never be forgotten.
