Sharon Lyn Martin Embry, 73, of Munford, AL passed away peacefully at her home on Saturday, April 12, 2025. Her family will receive friends at Usrey Funeral Home of Talladega on Wednesday, April 16, 2025 between 6:00 P.M. and 8:00 P.M. A funeral ceremony will be held in her honor at 11:00 A.M. on Thursday, April 17, 2025 at First Baptist Church of Talladega with Mitch Hagins and Robert Klotz officiating. Interment will follow directly after the service at Antioch Baptist Church Cemetery in Fyffe, AL.
Mrs. Embry was born on October 17, 1951 in Fort Payne, AL. She was a resident of Munford, AL where she lived on Ten Oaks—her family’s farm. She retired from Alabama Department of Human Resources after many years of service. Lyn was a member of First Baptist Church where she was actively involved in Bible study. Mrs. Embry was a woman of strong faith which she displayed over and over during her long battle against cancer. She was an avid gardener who especially loved lenten roses and hydrangeas, and she also loved antiques. Lyn and her husband, Harry, created Matt’s Tree Farm in 2011 to honor the memory of their son, Matthew, who planted the first trees. She was also a strong supporter of Big Oak Boys’ Ranch and helped many young people attend college through the scholarships that were awarded in Matt’s memory. Mrs. Embry was also an avid University of Alabama fan, especially of the University of Alabama Softball Team.
She was preceded in death by her son, Matthew Russell Embry, parents, Paul and Eunice Martin, and nephew, Steve Embry.
Mrs. Embry is survived by her husband, Harry Embry Jr., and son, Greg Embry. She was blessed with a large family including four sisters, Phyllis Embry (Gowan), Pam Galloway (Steve), Penny Durham (Tim), and Jill Bailey (Barry). She is also survived by three brothers, Eddy Martin, Micheal Martin (Deanna), and Jeff Martin (Beverly), as well as, many nieces and nephews who loved and cherished their Aunt Lyn.
Her nephews will serve as pallbearers.
In lieu of flowers, Mrs. Embry’s family asks that donations be made in her memory to Big Oak Boys’ Ranch, 6000 Shelley Drive, Springville, AL 35146 or at www.bigoak.org.
Mrs. Embry will always be remembered for her strong faith in God that she displayed in the ways she faced each challenge in her life. She was loved by many and will be remembered by the dignity and grace that she demonstrated every day. She will be greatly missed.
