Obituary of James E. Braswell

James E. Braswell, 77, of Talladega, AL passed away on Saturday, March 29, 2025. His family will receive friends at Usrey Funeral Home of Talladega on Tuesday, April 01, 2025 from 5:00 P.M. until 7:00 P.M. A funeral ceremony will be held in his honor at 2:00 P.M. on Wednesday, April 02, 2025 at Usrey Funeral Home of Talladega with Matt Peters officiating. Interment will follow directly after the service at Pine Hill Memorial Park. Mr. Braswell was a native and lifelong resident of Talladega, and earned a Master’s Degree in Business from Jacksonville State University. He was the owner and operator of Bemiston Mills and Custom Pizza and was a proud member of Bemiston Baptist Church. Mr. Braswell was very active in the community coaching youth soccer and basketball for many years. He also served in many vital roles throughout the city government—currently serving as Ward 5 Councilman. Additionally, Mr. Braswell previously served on the city council between 1983 and 1987. During his tenure, he also served on the Talladega Parks and Recreation Board, was a member of the Talladega Water and Sewer Board between 1983 and 1992, and was a board member for the Talladega City Board of Education from 1992-1998 and 2005-2023. Mr. Braswell’s many merits earned him the Key to the City in 1983. He will be greatly missed by the city which he served and his beloved family. He was preceded in death by his wife, Dottie Braswell; son, Brandon Braswell; mother, Edna Braswell; brother, Mike Braswell, and sisters, Debbie Braswell and Wanda Lee Braswell. Mr. Braswell is survived by his daughter, Tammy Liner (Joey); father, Buster Braswell; brother, Wilson Braswell (Susie); niece, Laci Braswell; grandson, Landry Liner (Mary); great-grandchildren, Clayton Liner and Hazely Liner; daughter-in-law, Maranda; caregiver, Kathy Watts, and a host of nieces and nephews. Corey Martin, Gino Lewallen, Kevin Hodge, Joey Liner, Landry Liner, and Ethan Stillwell will serve as pallbearers. Joe Sam Gallaway, Joey Peters, Earl Moreau, Ray Johns, Jerry Giles, and Tommy White will serve as honorary pallbearers. Online condolences may be offered at www.usreyfuneralhome.com.
