Please share a memory of Mary Ann to include in a keepsake book for family and friends.
Mary Ann Watson Hawkins, age 63, of Talladega, Alabama, passed away Saturday,February 22, 2025. Mary was born on October 26, 1961 to Bobby Ray and Eva Jo Watson. She grew up in Argo, Alabama and attended school in Springville, Alabama. Mary became a mother on March 24, 1976 when she had her one and only child, James. Years later, Mary met the love of her life, Darrell, who she married on January 28, 1995. Mary was an avid fan of the Alabama Crimson Tide. She was very passionate about Alabama Football and she’d argue with anybody that rooted against the Tide! Each home that Mary lived in included an “Alabama Football” room that was adorned with her extensive collection of Alabama Crimson Tide Memorabilia. Mary loved visiting the Great Smoky Mountains and enjoyed many trips to Gatlinburg and Pigeon Forge. She also loved vacationing at the beach whenever possible. Mary especially loved family beach trips. Mary had a style that was all her own. She was known for her creative decorating skills and her stylish outfits. Mary was also known for her cooking skills. Mary loved cooking almost as much as she loved eating out. Mary was a loving wife, mother, grandmother, great-grandmother, sister, aunt, and friend. She did things her way. She was tough, unique, bold, feisty, intense, and unapologetically a force to be reckoned with when need be. She could be your best friend or your worst enemy- the decision to see things her way was yours. But when she loved- she loved hard. Mary lost her best friend on May 30, 2011, when her mother died. She is also preceded in death by her father and her step son, James “Jimmy” Hawkins. Mary leaves behind her husband of 30 years, Darrell Hawkins; her son, James Nix; step-son, Bobby (Kayley) Hawkins; grandchildren, Cortnee Nix, Rylee Nix, Bristol Nix, Katelynn Hawkins, Dakota Hawkins, and Anna Bell Hawkins; great grand child, Maddelyn Nix; sisters, Sheila (David) Whisenhunt, Donna (Johnny) Peoples, Rachel (Jonathan) Akers; brother, Billy Watson; and a host of nieces and nephews. The family will receive friends at Usrey Funeral Home - Pell City on Thursday, February 27, from 5-7PM. Feel free to wear your Alabama Crimson Tide attire. The funeral service will be held at Usrey Funeral Home - Pell City on Friday, February 28, at 11:00AM. Burial will follow at St. Clair Memorial Gardens.
