Verrel and I were teammates in football and baseball at Ashville High School. If I were in a battle or fight, I can think of no one else I would rather have on my side. He was a true warrior and teammate. He wasn’t that big, like me, but there was no way one could measure the size of his heart.
When I came back to Ashville in 1981, I asked Verrel to keep stats for the football team, a job he kept till he passed.
What a man, teammate, and friend.
He will be sorely missed.
