Obituary of Maureen Lilian Darton Hill

Maureen Lilian Darton Hill of Talladega passed away on Sunday, March 4, 2018 at her residence, she was 78 years old. She was born January 21, 1940 in London, England. Adopted as a baby during World War II, she and her parents moved to Benfleet, Essex after being bombed during the Blitz. Upon completing secretarial college she worked in London at an insurance company. She later met and married Douglas Hill, of the US Air Force, while he was stationed at RAF Wethersfield, Essex.

          After being stationed in several places in the U.S. and around the world they settled in Talladega, where she worked as a secretary for a number of attorneys. She was also secretary at St. Peter's Episcopal Church and treasurer for the Hall of Heroes.

          Both she and her husband enjoyed doing genealogy, and during their research, she found her birth family living in England. They were happily reunited in 2003 and visited in person on several occasions.

          She was preceded in death by her husband Douglas, parents Frederick and Lilian Darton, and her brother Eric Flatman. She is survived by her daughters Sheran Earley (Daryl) and Julia Conner (John), brother David Cuttridge (Joy), sister-in-law, Dawn Flatman, two grandchildren, Lilian and Joseph Conner, and several nieces and nephews.

          Visitation will be Thursday, March 8, 2018 from 5-7 p.m. at Usrey Funeral Home.  Funeral services will be Friday, March 9, 2018 at 2 p.m., at St. Peter's Episcopal Church in Talladega with Father Ben Turnage officiating. Burial will be at Pine Hill Memorial Park, Talladega. Usrey Funeral Home Talladega will direct.
