Obituary of Helen Leverel Hanner

Mrs. Helen Laverel Hanner went home to Heaven on Monday evening March 27 at Talladega Healthcare. Born August 21, 1931 in Clay County, she grew up in the Pyriton and Clairmont Springs community and graduated from Lineville High School. She lived most of her adult life in Talladega where she met and married the love of her life, Herbert Hanner. She never met a stranger and loved to talk, cook and spend time with her family and friends. Laverel worked as a telephone operator for several years, but retired from the Talladega City School system as a lunchroom manager. She loved teaching children’s Sunday school and a member of Bemiston United Methodist Church. She is survived by her daughter, Lynne Hanner, son, Terry Hanner(Pat), sister, Sybil Capps; three grandchildren, Jamie Williamson(Chris), Jared Hanner, Jake Hanner (Kristina); two great grandchildren, Colby Williamson and Lorelei Hanner. Funeral services will be held Thursday, March 30 at 2:00 pm at Usrey Funeral Home Chapel with Rev. James Woodin and Rev. Chris Smith officiating. Visitation will be from 1:00 to 2:00 pm. Burial will be in Oak Hill Cemetery. Pallbearers will include Jared Hanner, Jake Hanner, Colby Williamson, Chris Tillman, Jimmy Creed, Jerry Caldwell, Mike Hanner, and Bobby Hanner. In lieu of flowers memorials may be sent to Alabama Institute for Deaf and Blind Foundation, P.O. Box 698, Talladega, Al 35161. Laveral loved the AIDB children’s musical programs!
