Rev. James Marlin Cox , 68, of Ashville, Alabama passed away on August 24, 2016 in Ashville. Rev. Cox served in the US Air Force from 1968 - 1972. He was a graduate of Samford University. He was employed by Barber Dairy Company for 23 years and Riteway Services for 10 years. Rev. Cox pastored Klein Baptist Church in Harpersville for 6 years and was the pastor of Greensport Baptist Church for 23 years. He was faithful in serving his Lord whom he loved. He loved, cared for and encouraged those whom God entrusted to him. It did not matter when or what time, he was there for his church family who were his dear friends. He loved Alabama football and playing baseball with his grandchildren in the yard on Sunday afternoon. He is survived by his Wife, Jamie Smith Cox; Daughters, Marla and Heath Schall; Michelle and Jake Layfield; and his chosen children, Justin and Ginny Northam; Sisters, Pat and Danny Bunt, and Barbara Kay; Grandchildren, Travis, Owen and Cara Schall, Drew and Easton Layfield, Brady, Molly and Lydia Northam. Funeral Services will be at 2:00 pm on Friday August 26, 2016 at Greensport Baptist Church with Bro. Billy Hunt, Bro. Jeremy Williams and Bro. Ben Chandler officiating. Interment will be in the adjoining cemetery. The family will receive friends Friday from 12- 2 at the church. Pallbearers will be Justin Northam, Don Sanders, Paul Lyle, Ben Spradley, Greg Cox and Tom Sanders. Honorary Pallbearers will be grandchildren and Mack Harris. In lieu of flowers donations may be made to the Geensport Baptist Church Youth Fund. Condolences may be offered online at www.usreyfuneralhome.com.
