Obituary of George Robert Storey, Sr., M.D.

George Robert “Bobby” Storey, Sr. M.D passed away at Crestwood Hospital in Huntsville, Alabama on Sunday, May 22, 2016 due to complications from diabetes and congestive heart failure. Dr. Storey, the second son of Finis “Bill” and Mary Ann (Cooley) Storey, was born on July 16, 1957 in Talladega, Alabama. He was a member of the Boy Scouts of America and earned the rank of Eagle Scout. He graduated Talladega High School in 1975 and Birmingham-Southern College in 1980. He married his high school sweetheart, Frances Ellen (Porter), on June 7, 1980. He later attended St. George’s Medical School and ultimately graduated from UAB School of Medicine. He practiced family medicine in both Huntsville and Talladega for 25 years before having just moved to Athens, Alabama to open a new practice. In addition to serving his local community through medicine, Dr. Storey made multiple medical mission trips to West Africa and the Caribbean. He considered it a joy to minister care to people and help ease their suffering. Though he dispensed medical care, Dr. Storey found the most joy in sharing the love of Jesus. Not only was he a beloved doctor, but he was a loving husband, father, grandfather, brother, and uncle and leaves behind many loved ones. Dr. Storey is preceded in death by father, Finis “Bill” Ewing Storey Jr., mother Mary Ann (Cooley) Storey, and brothers Finis “Billy” Ewing Storey III and Russell Storey. He leaves behind a loving wife, Frances Ellen (Porter) Storey, children BJ (Ashley), Andrew, Brandon (Tracy), Jon, and his baby girl, Sarah, brother, Matt “Goobaby” Storey, uncle, Jim Storey, grandchildren Lucy and Amelie Storey, brother and sister-in-laws, William Shute, Bonnie Porter Bischoff, Joshua Porter, Laurie Wooten (Larry), Miriam Clark (Ricky), Joe Porter (Scarlett), Jess Porter (Laurie), Mary Jon Hadley (Don), Jacob Porter (Jacqui), and numerous nieces and nephews Funeral services will be 2:00 pm, Wednesday, May 25, 2016 at Usrey Funeral Home in Talladega with Rev. Jim McCain officiating. The family will receive friends from 1:00 to 2:00 pm Wednesday. A private burial at Porter Family Cemetery will take place at a later date. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to Diabetes Foundation.
